Anurag Kashyap Says T-Series Paid Him Poorly for Music of DevD, Gulaal, and Gangs of Wasseypur

Anurag Kashyap on T Series underpaying his films dont get good music - India Today

On July 13, 2025, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap opened up about his financial disputes with India’s biggest music label, T-Series, claiming that the company undervalued the music of his cult classics. In an interview with The Juggernaut, Kashyap stated that despite the huge success and lasting appeal of the soundtracks from DevDGulaal, and Gangs of Wasseypur, he was paid very little.

He remarked sharply, “If Bhushan Kumar is not buying it, then it’s good music. If T-Series is not buying it, it’s great music.” According to Kashyap, the label tends to invest only when a film features a major star and not based on the quality or originality of the music.

He also revealed that T-Series bought the rights to Bombay Velvet even though they didn’t like the music, suggesting commercial motives rather than musical appreciation. Despite the critical acclaim and cult status of the soundtracks, he said the label profited heavily while offering minimal compensation to the creators.
